Ty-Sells-241x300The Pelham community is cordially invited to attend the next edition of PACT’s Pelham University. The event, themed, “Creating Connections That Count,” is scheduled for 8 – 9:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall at Pelham Memorial High School. It will feature Ty Sells (right), a nationally recognized speaker on youth leadership development and drug prevention from Youth to Youth International.

”The connections we make as we navigate through life help shape our decisions, our identity and our future,” said PACT director Virginia Hartmere. “Connections with parents, friends, teachers, youth leaders, coaches and neighbors all teach us in some way how to think and act, steering us in a direction that may or may not be healthy and safe. We’re excited to have Ty at this Pelham University because he excels at finding strategies to make connections more meaningful with young people.”

The Pelham University presentation is ideal not just for Pelham parents who wish to foster better connections with their children, but for youth-serving professionals who want to more effectively engage young people in their programs. Adults know the value young people bring to their families and communities, but establishing connections is the first step. In an interactive and exciting way, participants will learn practical and proven ways to engage and connect with teens, whether their own children or youth they work with in other capacities. Attendees will learn how to create an environment conducive to creating connections, the five key principles to being more effective with youth and practical techniques to inspire youth.

Ty is a “product” of the Youth to Youth high school program – PMHS has its own Y2Y Club — and has spent over 20 years during and after college working directly with youth in its local program. He is known across the country for his charisma, humor and leadership. He has developed a number of trainings, workshops and presentations for both youth and adults to address the many complex issues that confront today’s young people. The Pelham University session will conclude a full day for Ty in Pelham. During the day, he will lead the first-ever Youth Leadership Summit for Pelham middle schoolers.

PACT is a community coalition encouraging youth to make healthy, safe and substance free choices by promoting their positive development and reducing youth substance use. Visit us at pelhampact.org, “Like” us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @pelhampact.
