Calling all teens! Apply Now to be a PACT Summer Intern!

Applications for PACT’s summer internship program are now open! This paid summer internship program provides high school students with an opportunity to build leadership skills and experience by participating in youth-led community projects. These projects focus on supporting youth efforts to create an environment that encourages healthy, safe and substance-free choices.

During the 2017 five-week session, interns will focus on maintaining and enhancing the Pelham LOFT, Pelham’s virtual teen center. Interns will develop a youth agenda for the coming year, which will require them to communicate and collaborate with local schools, organizations, and local businesses to ensure that as many social options as possible exist for Pelham teens.  Through hands-on-experiences, students will gain knowledge and expertise in marketing, fundraising, social media and event planning. To hone skills and develop confidence, the youth will attend trainings on a variety of topics. One such training is conducted in Rhode Island by the Youth 2 Youth organization for teens from all over the East Coast. Many Westchester teenagers attend, and use the free bus transportation provided by the Westchester Coalition. All interns are expected to travel to Rhode Island from July 28th-July 31st as part of their PACT internship.

Successful applicants should be energetic, self-motivated and connected to the community, with computer and social media skills a plus. Students must be entering grades 9-12 in the fall of 2017 to be eligible for the program, and do not have to attend Pelham Memorial High School. As the internship program seeks to increase youth participation in the decision-making process within the Pelham community, interns are expected to continue as unpaid volunteers during the 2017-2018 school year as part of PACT’s Youth Leadership Council, in some capacity. Interns design and deliver a community-wide presentation of their summer work at the PACT Town Hall in October 2017.

Students chosen for the program will complete 40 hours of paid work in total this summer, beginning the week of July 11th.  All interns are paid minimum wage for 40 hours.

Deadline for applications is June 2, 2017. Applications can be found here. Email sbuckley@pelhampact.com if you have any questions.

PACT is a community coalition encouraging youth to make healthy, safe and substance free choices.
