Are you looking for a way to make an im-PACT in the lives of Pelham’s youth? PACT is looking to fill two part-time positions: Communications Coordinator and Youth Advocate.

The Communications Coordinator position manages the organizations multi-faceted communications, including content creation, scheduling, regular updates for print and digital media (website and social media), and event publicity. The Youth Advocate position works with Pelham’s young people in oversight of the Youth Leadership Council, a group of teens who coordinate projects, events, and campaigns in pursuit of a youth agenda in our community. Communications Coordinator

Are you looking for a way to make an im-PACT in the lives of Pelham’s youth? PACT is looking for a new part-time Communications Coordinator. The position implements PACT’s public facing work, managing the coalition’s multi-faceted communication plan. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and writing skills, a marketing background, and experience with social media and WordPress.

TITLE:
Communications Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Pelham PACT Coalition (PACT) seeks a Communications Coordinator to work with PACT’s Executive Director, graphic designer and volunteers, to manage the organization’s communication plan, including content creation, scheduling and regular updates for print and digital media (website and social media). PACT is a youth-centered community coalition whose goals are to:

  • support youth and families by centralizing all youth-related information in Pelham, and
  • target resources that address the underlying stressors for young people thereby connecting and strengthening youth, parents, and families.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Designing, writing, producing and distributing email newsletters, website content, event publicity and wrap-up, and Facebook and Twitter posts inclusive of current trends, national, regional, and Pelham-specific.
  • Increasing the awareness of PACT as a hub of youth-centered information and resources via all communication outlets—traditional marketing efforts such as local media and printed collateral, as well as interactive and social media channels.
  • Serving as a liaison with Youth Advocate and Youth Leadership Council, community organizations, groups and committees to obtain up-to-date content, stories, videos and photos.
  • Guide youth members in their marketing and publicity efforts for teen events and outreach.
  • Analyzing web and social media statistics, to recommend strategies for increasing the effectiveness of PACT’s messaging.
  • Assisting the Executive Director in other duties as necessary.

STATUS:        

  • Part-time, 10 hours/week, schedule flexible.
  • Some evening and weekend work required, dependent on scheduled PACT events.
  • 44 weeks per year plus 8 holidays (pro-rated).

SALARY:        

  • $25 / hour

START DATE:          

  • ASAP

SKILLS:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge and experience with social media platforms and how they can be optimized.
  • Knowledge of WordPress, MS Office products, e-newsletter production (Mail Chimp), on-line interactive communication tools such Survey Monkey and Google Forms; some photo editing and HTML skills.
  • Detail oriented and flexible.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Experience with non-profit, mission-driven work and interest in youth development a plus.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in web/online production; WordPress a plus

Youth Advocate

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Pelham PACT Coalition (PACT) seeks a dynamic and collaborative leader to work with Pelham’s young people on youth-led projects in the community. The Youth Advocate will oversee the Youth Leadership Council, a group of active teens who coordinate projects, events, and campaigns in pursuit of a substance-free, youth agenda in the Pelham community. This person will actively seek skill-building opportunities to develop young people into community leaders, including the building of relationships with local organizations and community members, to provide them with opportunities, skills and role models. This person must have experience working with youth and a passion for their physical and emotional health.

PACT is a youth-centered community coalition whose goals are to:

  • Elevate and empower young people through skill-building and opportunities;
  • Inform and educate parents through data and resources that target stressors for young people; and
  • connect and strengthen the community on behalf of its youth and families.

The Youth Advocate is an integral part of elevating and empowering youth voice in Pelham. Through the oversight of the Youth Leadership Council (YLC) and summer internship program, the Youth Advocate ensures there is a place for youth ideas to be heard, skills to be developed and connections to be made. The Youth Advocate guides young people in Pelham as they grow their interest in and capacity for civic engagement and social action to make their community a better place.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with teenage youth in the community as well as the relevant youth-facing organizations
  • Oversee Youth Leadership Council, including maintenance of Pelham Loft website and social media updates. Regularly meet with teens and guide them in the presenting, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all teen events and initiatives.
  • Organize youth to establish philanthropy goals and priorities and guide them in building skills as social entrepreneurs in their own community.
  • Mentor youth as they assume responsibilities in fundraising, budgeting, publicity and marketing, and website management.
  • Initiate leadership trainings and other skill-building opportunities for youth
  • Grow community partnerships in support of teen initiatives
  • Integrate older youth with younger youth through mission-driven activities and collaborations with schools and other organizations.

BACKGROUND

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS degree
  • Experience working with teenage youth

TRAVEL: 
As part of the oversite of a summer internship program, the Youth Advocate travels with a group of PACT inters to chaperone a 4-day leadership training conference in Rhode Island.

STATUS: $25/hour Part-time, 10 hours/week, schedule flexible. Evening and weekend work required to meet with youth and/or oversee events, as applicable. Oversight of summer internship (40 hours total over 5 weeks; schedule flexible). Must be able to work around teenagers’ schedules.

SKILLS:

  • Strong rapport with teens, including the ability to recruit and maintain relationships.
  • Knowledge of current trends in teen culture and social media.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Comfort level with including youth in decision-making.
  • Ability to establish and execute plans among several stakeholders.
  • Detail oriented and flexible.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people.
