PACT Summer Interns 2012Pelham PACT Coalition recently announced their five selections for their inaugural PACT Youth Internship and Leadership Training Program: (left to right) Sammy Goldman, Alex Crowley, Juliana Mora, Sara Romanello, Kate Morrell. This brand new program runs July 2012 – June 2013 and is designed to provide high school students with an opportunity to gain work and leadership experience along with participation in the decision making process within a community-wide organization. As part of the program, interns also attended Youth to Youth International’s summer training conference in Rhode Island to learn leadership skills that aim to empower them to make a difference in their community. “I am thrilled with the response we got to our new internship program (applicants submitted an application and were interviewed) and look forward to involving these high school students in PACT’s work,” says PACT Coalition Director, Virginia Hartmere. Interns are already hitting the pavement, working on a paid summer community research project focused on surveying the community to identify local resources available to Pelham’s youth (starting in September students will earn community service credit ). Through August 11, all Pelham-based businesses and non-profit organizations interested in helping the students collect this community information are invited to take a survey developed by the interns at this link. Their results will be presented at PACT’s October meeting.
